Parents had approached various business in our community to see if they were willing to have sign up sheets placed at their locations. Once these locations were chosen, posters were made and placed in retail outlets, the schools and our local arena. A newspaper article was submitted on this youth's progress and the community was advised that our team was putting on a fundraiser in support of his debut. This fundraiser was not so much about the money as it was about the support so when pricing the tickets our team split their discount with the purchaser. It worked out that the team fund-raised about $1.25 for every ticket we sold. Our team could have made up to approximately $3.00/ticket.
In the two weeks of our fundraiser event, our team raised $137.00. This money went towards purchasing two 6 foot long subs from Sub Way for our year end party, which all children and their families were treated to.
To make this type of event more successful I think next time it would be more successful if we could get this star youth's direct involvement. The idea of having an autograph event after the game is one such idea that should be considered. It was not done in this particular case as the youth that the fundraiser was centered around is an individual that prefers not to have himself placed in the spotlight, so to speak.
