Books For Rent/Sale Fundraising Activity

by Madelaine M. Quilang
(Makati,Philippines)

In our university, students (especially those who don't have younger siblings)feel awkward to buy books (which they will just use for a semester)required by their professors. This made us think of the books for rent or sale fundraising concept.

Since we are just starting, what we did is ask and lend books from our senior students (who are willing to lend their books for a semester) and offer these(books) to the lower year levels (freshmen - juniors). surprisingly, many students supported this fundraising activity. actually, we are still looking for other students who can lend or even donate their books to the organization because of the demand of the students. Also, to avoid confusion and for good tracking, we put a control number in each book and we let the students sign a "book agreement" which states the do's and dont's and penalties in case of damage etc.

In case of "books for sale", the donors or the owners of the book can have the option of selling their books to the organization at a minimal amount. In return, we will announce the what books are for sale by posting book titles and their respective amounts in our bulletin board. We will of course sell the books at a just price (seller's price plus certain amount).

We lent a total number of 20 books from different students.

Our book rentals cost Php75.00 per book. all in all, we raised Php1500.00 in just a week...an amount which helped us a lot in starting a new fundraising activity (candy sale, food campaign activity).
