Candles for Scouts

by CKT
(Georgia, USA)

Our Scouts Troop decided to sell candles to raise money for the boys activities and supplies. Our Troop had prizes donated for the top three sellers both for parents and the boys. The prize for the top selling parent was a free two day stay at a nice hotel on the river in Savannah, GA. The top selling boy had a choice from local attractions.

The other incentive to sell candles, the boys will not be required to pay fees for every event (camping, lock ins, etc). That year the Troop raised more money than previous years.

One tip for a good candle sale is to sell a product that is widely known. If people know the product they are more likely to buy it. We found that out the hard way, the previous year we sold from a local company and did not have samples so no one bought the candles.

My selling strategy was diversity. I took the form to work and to soccer games and my son took the form to church, school and door to door. Our product sold itself, it was easy, fun and we went to Savannah.
