Cardboard to Smartboard - Recycling Success

Money was needed to purchase a "Smartboard" for use in the classroom, they run about $2,300 a piece, they are an invaluable tool for holding elementary school students interest.

We dealt with a company that recycled cardboard, for each dumpster full of crushed cardboard the school received $25.00. Several of the parents offered to pick up the cardboard, this was circulated in the weekly bulletin. Also, the dumpsters were placed on school property, so an individual could drop off cardboard as well.

Within the first three months, the recycling company had placed 5 dumpsters on site with two weekly pickups. It is amazing how much cardboard one family generates in a couple of weeks. The school was able to purchase three "Smartboards" within the first 6 months.
