Cheer!

by Gina
(Auburn, Ohio)

In high school, I was part of the cheerleading squad and we sold candles so we could raise enough money to go to the Orange Bowl to cheer. It was so much fun to be with my fellow cheerleaders, and we went around the school daily to ask not only teachers but also students to buy candles. We also spent some practice days to drive around to the community and ask others to help us out. The reason we were going to the Orange Bowl was because some of the cheerleaders on our squad qualified to go cheer, but we needed the funds to get there to represent our small high school.

Some creative things we did was make sign and hung them up. We also made announcements in school and put advertisements in the monthly school newsletter. We also found out that we made more money by suggesting to high school students to buy the candles as gifts for their parents. It turned out to be really helpful!

The teachers were all very willing to help out also. They not only bought the candles, but donated extra money. We ended up raising enough money for four plane tickets to the Orange Bowl. It was so much fun!
