Cookbook Fundraiser for Animal Rescue Group

When I was working with a large, internet-based animal rescue group several years ago, they were constantly looking for ways to earn money to help pay for health care and care and feeding of the rescued animals, along with transportation. We decided to put together a cookbook to help raise funds.

One of the things we did to make the book more interesting is ask contributors to also send photos of their rescued pets. Printing photos was too expensive, so I used photo editing software along with a graphics art tablet to turn the photos into line drawings. I also saved the group some money by doing the page layout myself instead of allowing the printing company to do it.

We also stimulated additional interest by having a contest in which we asked list members to suggest names for the cook book. After a specified period, we had list members vote for their favorite name. The winner won a free copy of the cookbook.

I don't remember the exact amount, but I believe the cookbook fundraiser cleared more than $2000 for the group, and we did it without costing the group a penny. How? When we knew that we had enough recipes to make a successful cook book, we started taking orders and accepting payment. Within 2 weeks, we had enough money in hand to pay for the initial order.
