Creative Auction Fundraiser for Cancer Victim Collects $20,000
I had contacted several celebrities and businesses I was aquainted with and asked for donations of goods, services, and time. One particular celebrity was a race car driver that had donated a helmet that was worn during a race at Talledega.
We had received several items that would fetch a substantial amount of money and decided more in the interest of time to hold the auction on ebay instead of in the open, and decided to raffle off many of the other items instead of auctioning them.
With the help of the American Cancer Society (a small portion of the proceeds was donated to them) we were allowed to use their name and logo. With the use of the ACS's name and logo we were allowed to use PSAs(Public Service Announcements) which radio stations do not charge for. This gave us a wider approach to advertise the event, the website, and the auction fundraiser.
With the help of the radio, the flyers and posters throughout the event, and the announcements made every chance we got at the event, all of the items sold for quite a sum of money. We also allowed the bidding to go for a few days after the event had ended.
Overall we collected $20k in a one day event and an auction that lasted less than 2 weeks.

Charity auctions really are a brilliant strategy for fundraising, particularly for larger non-profit groups such as educational institutions. Online auctions offer the ability to acquire bids through far more people as compared with old-style auctions.
