Creative Magazine Fundraiser Helps Homeless Animals :(
(Lima,Ohio)
I started a community softball league a couple of years ago here in Lima, Ohio just so that my neighbors and I would have something to do. We practiced once a week and played on Saturdays. Me being a dog lover, I also volunteered once a week at a local pound. The pound was going to have to put several dogs and cats to sleep because they did not have enough funding. I discussed this with my neighbors, and they said that we should do some kind of fundraiser to help raise money for the pound.
My son had just done a magazine drive at school, and I decided to contact the company to see if we could do the same. Our baseball league threw a huge carnival and decided to do the magazine fundraiser there.
Two weeks prior to the carnival, we posted signs and even did radio ads to get the word out about the carnival. Instead of charging money for the rides and games, we decided to have people sign up for subscriptions to magazines to help out the animals. This was a big success because people paid less money for the magazine subscriptions than they would have for the carnival itself.
The only tip that I would have for others doing magazine fundraisers would be to be creative in your sales techniques.
I loved everything about this experience, and the animals were not put to sleep!
