Ethnic Dinners

My wife and I were raising money to sponsor a short term trip to North Africa, so having been there before, my wife invited all of our friends to a dinner of couscous. We even purged our living room of all furniture, circled the room with mattresses, and had everyone sit on the floor, just as they do over there. One additional feature was that we encouraged everyone to eat with their hands, though we did supply spoons for those a bit reticent. It was an enjoyable evening for all as we told stories of life and culture over there, and showed pictures, especially of those children who would benefit from our trip. In the end we raised several hundred dollars, which multiplied into the thousands as we did this several times. Oh yes, we also dressed up in local clothing, which everyone got a kick out of. They went home happy, having given to a worthy cause, as well as having an intercultural education.
