Fire Department Raises Money with Mag Fundraising

I’m part of a volunteer fire department in a rural area and last summer we really needed some new safety equipment. We were in need of new gloves and hoods (which go over your head to protect your head, ears and neck) and things of the sort to keep firefighters from getting burned. We decided to do a magazine fundraiser because in our community there are quite a lot of elderly persons and we thought it would be something they could purchase for themselves, grandkids, etc., and that would appeal to everyone else as well.

We promoted the idea by hanging a banner on the station and asking anyone to come in and register to win a free two years’ subscription to a magazine of their choice with a minimum purchase. We also got the convenience store next door to advertise for us. We ended up making a little over a thousand dollars, which was plenty to purchase the safety equipment we needed. We then randomly drew a name of one of our magazine purchasers and let her pick which magazine she wanted her two years’ subscription to (she picked Better Homes and Gardens).
