For the Church.

by Andrew Allen

In the center town, sits one of the oldest churches in the city. This place was in a semi-dilapidated condition, on the point of being declared condemned. The roofs were leaking, the pews were full of holes, and all sort of other problems just waiting to be fixed. The church as a hole need to be fixed up, yet was lacking the funds to be have the work done. Many people of the community had grown up going to this church and it had a sort of nostalgic feeling and meaning.

After carful consideration and plenty of thought, a group church members came up with the idea of an online auction. An online auction was picked because we came to the conclusion that out of all of the types of fundraisers we could do, an online aution would be the most convenient for not only the church, but for the people as well. Nowadays, almost everyone has access to a computer and almost everyone had access to our online auction.

We also had a night set up at the local elementary school to provide use of the computer labs and media center computers for those who did not have access to a computer. In the week before the auction was to take place, pamphlets were handed out during each mass. The pamphlet told what was happening, what was it for, and when it was. It was also encouraged for them to tell others and get the word out. Pamphlets were also handed out at local supermarkets and strip malls.

The online auction was a success because we got the word out to as many people as we possible could and opened a chance for everyone to participate in the online auction through the use of the schools computer.

The church raised a hefty profit and many repairs were made to the church. Many modern additions were made to the church also. We were able to not only fix the roof, pews, and walls, but also were able to add new lights that just brightened the place up and felt so inviting.
