Fundraising for Breast Cancer Walks

I had to raise a minimum amount to participate in the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer. The problem is that if you do this every year, you can only hit up your friends and family to a certain point. I had to get creative.

First, I decided to have a yard sale. I posted an ad on Craigslist for items to be donated to the sale. The great thing about this is that you get a really good mix of things to sell and people are more than generous to have you haul their "junk" away. I also posted a sign at the yard sale telling people what the sale was for and a jar for extra change. I made $900 in about 7 hours.

Second, a bbq party for friends and family. You provide hot dogs and chips and they bring a minimum donation of $10. People don't mind as much when they feel they are getting something out of it. This could get you a couple hundred dollars depending on who you invite and how many people. Net the OH, I made $350.

Third, you do have to ask people. You have to ask everyone from your hairdresser to your insurance salesman. Don't be shy, people can say no, but they aren't mean to you. Push and send out automatic reminders in case people have intended to donate but have forgotten.

Overall, I made $2400.
