Make Dollars with Dough

One of my favorite fundraising projects is cookie dough. It is one that I use during the holiday for my church's youth group. They are a Help Group, and this fundraiser puts more money in their budget than all the others.

The one thing I like about this type of sale is that it allows the family to come together and have some fun. I usually sell this item from November thru the week before Christmas. The buckets go so fast.

In this day and age,not many people like to spend time in the kitchen mixing up a batch of cookies. With the cookie dough, all you have to do is scoop, shape if you like, and bake. Simple.

The way I do it is place flyers around the city of Newark, Irvington, Jersey City, and any where a youth member can place one. We call it the "Holiday with the Family Baking Campaign." and it is to promote family togetherness during the holiday season.

We only sell chocolate chip, sugar, and oatmeal cookies. Two are fun to eat, while the sugar cookies are easy to decorate. We even throw in a little book of decorating ideas, done by the kids in the group, pictures are included as well as a contact number. If contacted by phone (we use a prepaid cell phone during this time), we will deliver to the nearest market, never a home, or other non public place.

You will get a lot of return customers. One lady has purchased a tub a year for the last three years for her daughter's easy bake oven.

In the almost two months of selling, the group usually nets over $3000. This is each year.

We have built a good relationship with our vendor so we get our initial order on credit(100 tubs), then go from there with additional tubs. The price is right, usually $10 per 2lb tub, and the season is perfect.

The money we raised has been used for everything from buying items for the homeless, to paying a utility bill for a congregation member who lost their job.

This is a great item to add to any organizations fundraising agenda.
