Merit Boxes Fundraiser

I work for a Buddhist church and we started a new fund raiser idea that I think was successful and nice. We decided to make a number of boxes that we sent to our church members called merit boxes. Our members would keep the boxes at their homes and put their spare change or money inside throughout the year and at end they could send it back to us. One important thing was to make the box look nice so the people could incorporate it into their daily lives. We Buddhist believe that generosity increases merit and makes you have good karma so giving these out not only helps the church, but gives people and opportunity to be generous on a daily basis.
