The group suggested selling candy bars as a method to raise funds. I worked for a manufacturing company with many employees at that time, so I set up a candy box there and at my church to raise money.
My husband thought it would be funny to take a photo of my son and daughter and make a color poster from my son's point of view that said "Help send my sister to Europe. . . PLEASE!!!" That got everyone laughing and I sold out my stock of candy bars in no time! I even had to reorder more candy to keep the box filled!
The candy sale became so popular at my company, I was asked to continue to sell candy bars even after my daughter's trip was paid for and completed. It became an ongoing fundraiser for my family for a couple of years.
We still have copies of that poster hanging around the house and my kids are in high school and college now. We still get a laugh!
We didn't raise the entire amount needed for the trip, but the fundraiser helped with the down payment and some of her extra spending money. We made about $350 on the sale, and that was $1 at a time!!
