Muffin Sale Fundraiser

As a child I used to attend a small school that was in constant need of funding. One thing we did was set up a stand outside the entrance of the school in order to sell muffins and coffee to the parents dropping their children off. (We were such that we couldn't even afford a bus service!)

We managed to make a lot of money that way. I believe it had less to do with our product or ability to incite charitable feeling and more to do with accessibility, you didn't even have to leave your car to get your muffin ...

I think the key to a good fundraiser is to make sure the target audience has to go as little out of their way as possible.

For instance, I think that if you organized a high school car wash type fundraiser, you'd have less success posting fliers of the occasion and waiting for customers to come to you, and more success sending the students out to the parking lot of, say, a large church on Sunday as the congregation is breaking up, and asking them to stay for an extra ten minutes while they wash their car for a few dollars. That way, the customer doesn't have to do anything extra, just sit there.
