Our Garage Sale Fundraiser

My two daughters and I wanted to do something helpful during the summer this year. So we decided to have a huge garage sale and then donate the money it brings to the local animal shelter. We picked the animal shelter because my two daughters had read an article about abused animals and they felt like they needed to do something to help.

The first thing we did was to ask everybody we knew to donate stuff that they did not need anymore. We also ask them to ask their friends as well. I could not believe how much good stuff ended up in our garage over about a month period. There were so many good things.

Next we put an ad in the paper advertising the garage sale and what our cause was. We also posted garage sale signs all over the neighborhood. We even got our neighbor kids to pitch in and help.

It turned out to be a great success. We ended up taking in more than 350 dollars which we turned over to the animal shelter.

I think this was one of the best experiences for my children. It thought them how to organize and do something good for others. Hopefully we will be able to do something similar again.
