Play Ball!

by Tina
(Texas)

My father is a member of the local VFW in Vidor, Texas. The VFW is located across the ball field, so sometimes the gentleman would go outside and watch the kids play. There was a group of kids who were wanting to start a team, but did not have the means to do so. After a few weeks of watching these kids, the men at the VFW decided to have a fundraiser to help raise money for equipment so these underpriveleged children could play on a team. Thats where I come in. I suggested holding a scratchcard fundraiser that included a "field day" for the community with food, beverages, games and music. The turn out was amazing. THe money needed was raised and the VFW members all helped out with the coaching. The look on the childrens faces when their uniforms were handed to them will forever hold a place in my heart.
