Raising Money for Autism Awareness
Every year our charity, Autism Speaks, has a charity run. This year along with the charity run a group of mothers came up with the ideas of cookbooks for parents of autistic children. The cookbook was developped by parents who needed ways to get their autistic children more involved and less introverted. Recipes, such as sugar cookies, involved getting your autistic child to use food coloring to add their own personality to the cookies. We also added personal stories to each of the recipes from parents in our area. We also reached out to parents across the country. Pictures of the families and other little anecdotes where included as well. I think the success of the cookbooks was that all the parents or family members wanted to make a difference and sometimes being able to share your ideas is more gratifying than just giving money. We raised over 4500.00 in a weekend. Each cookbook sold for 20.00. We actually had to order more because we did not make enough. The best tip I can give someone looking to run a cookbook fundraiser is to make the cookbook personal, although everyone loves family recipes I think it's important to know the family the recipe is coming from.
