Raising Money Indirectly

I was running a gaming tournament out of a local church in St. Louis and needed more people paying admission to cover all the costs. So I got a bunch of these bracelets and handed them out at the door for 2 weeks. There was noticeable increase in attendance. I even saw a few workers at a local gaming store wearing them. This helped us to get enough people coming to cover costs and then some. We put the extra cash towards getting some next gen gaming systems and increasing the prize money.
Even though we didn't make the money from selling the bracelets they were a very effective means of raising awareness and visibility for our event amongst local gamers. A few things which were helpful was to give the winners of the tournament a unique bracelet. Some people collected multiple bracelets, which served as a status symbol and a sign of rank. Sadly I've stopped doing the tournament due to scheduling problems, but if I do something similar I'd definitely start off with this method.
