Raising Money Online to "raise" our School Roof

My kids' school has a silent auction every year to raise money for whatever the school needs in that particular year. Last year, however, the private school was in dire straights - our old building needed extensive earthquake renovation (we are in California) in order to be up to code and able to stay open. Our regular silent auction was not going to cut it. So, we turned to online auctioning - ebay.com more specifically - to raise awareness and much needed money.

We got donations from parents and community members for both auctions. We decided to raise awareness and excitement for our silent auction and formal dinner by first doing an online auction with about a dozen of our best donations. We advertised at school, church and throughout the community about the online auction. The response was great and we raised tons of money. In turn, ticket sales for the silent auction sky-rocketed and we raised even more money than we needed. It was a fabulous experience.
