Recycling cans can be fun (and make money too)

At a church in my area we needed to raise money to go on a missions trip. One thing that we did was to collect aluminum cans. We were able to raise a lot of money for this trip (don't know exact amounts). How we did it was to make a game out of it. We split into teams and had a few weeks to collect cans.
The winner in this case got donated gift cards to a local restaurant. While this contest was happening we told the rest of the church what was going on, and that they could help out by giving cans to the teams or stopping by or putting cans in a group of trashcans out front.
In the end it was a big success and would advise anyone wanting to try this to get as many people to know about it as possible. It can also be applied to schools, churches, anything you can think of.
