Scratching My Way to Kenya

The school introduced the scratchcard fundraiser as a way to raise money to help with the $2,700 cost. The children were excited at the idea of raising money to help their parents with the cost of the trip.
My daughter was so excited that she stood in the lobby of her school and was able to raise $136 in just a few hours.
While the majority scratched the ovals and donated the amounts revealed, there were a number of people who donated more than they scratched, or they didn't scratch at all and just donated a set amount ($5, $10, even $20).
I was so excited at the success my daughter had with her first scratchcard that I went to the office and asked for 10 more ... to send to family and friends, as far away as South Carolina and Georgia (we're in NY).
One afternoon a 7th grader and my daughter, who are both huge Michael Jackson fans, stood in the lobby and serenaded the parents with Michael Jackson songs, while asking for donations. The parents were more than happy to contribute and they raised over $160.
We leave in two weeks and we are still fundraising and we have a few cards that need to be scratched.
