Successful T-shirt Fundraiser for Alumni in Need

Stephen J. Kunitsky, an alumni from my high school, was diagnosed with neuroendocrine cancer in November 2006. He battled with this rare and aggressive disease until he unfortunately passed away in January 2008.

My school, while he was still alive, fundraised to help him and the Stephen J. Kunitsky Fund to help with his astronomical medical bills. We sold t-shirts that read "Cancer is word, not a sentence" and "Fight Cancer." We also held a "Kiss a Cow" Fundraiser.

During a pep rally, we presented our fundings to a positive-minded Stephen. Although it was a saddening event, it made one smile to see his gratefulness for the money we raised for him. Selling t-shirts united the school (we had a day where we took a picture of everyone wearing the shirts) while raising money for a really great cause.

The "Kiss a Cow" Fundraiser got teachers involved and was a fun event for students to participate in. Although I am not positive exactly how much money was raised, I know it was more than $1,000.

The Stephen J. Kunitsky Fund continues to raise money, as Stephen wished, for others in similar situations as Stephen was in.
