Sun Protection Products for Swim Team Fund Raiser

When I was in high school our school rarely extended funds to support the sports teams. I was the varsity captain of our swim team, and was really distraught that we wouldn't be able to get parkas and swim suits that displayed our team spirit and logo properly. I ruled out the candy sales, because they weren't going well for us as a whole. But- I started to consider that some corporate partners might be able to sponsor or donate to us in exchange for some marketing to benefit them.

As we were swimmers and constantly in the sun, I contacted Banana Boat, (a sunscreen and sun protection product company) and in exchange for placing a small banner at our swim facility, they donated a ton of chapsticks, sunscreens, and other fun, fruity products that we were allowed to resell at an extremely low cost to raise money for our team.

It was a total success. I know that MANY companies consider donating products, but- many people just don't ask. I think in total we raised over $5,000 which allowed us all to be decked out in our team colors and garb!

Thank you for sharing your experience of fundraising! I am working with our swim team to establish a sun safety program and also raise funds to host championships in a few years. This sounds like a great way to promote both ideas!

I checked the Banana Boat website after reading your post and did not find an email option for contacting the company. Could you provide any contact information, including the person you worked with through Banana Boat?

I am excited to take this idea back to the swim team board and see where it may lead us. Thanks again for sharing your experience and for taking the intiative to make a difference for your team.
