The Greatest Customers Ever!

I was in fifth grade and LOVED fundraisers. When presented with the task of selling candy bars to raise money for books, I was so excited. Not only because I knew this meant I would be spending some of my allowance on the delicious chocolate and almond bars, but also because I KNEW I would be winning the boom box the school was offering up as a prize. THIS is tip #1 make it fun for the person selling the candy.
Competition is one of the greatest motivators, couple it with an awesome reward and you have pure motivation at its best. I am and have always been a talker so it was almost easy for me to convince neighbors to purchase my candy. Of course it was the same candy that all the other neighborhood children were selling, but mine was sold with "love" THIS is tip #2 be unique when marketing your candy, find something that separates from the 50+ other people selling the same product.
My best customer ever was my mommy. She knew how great my desire to win the prize was, she knew the hard work I had put in to win the prize, and she knew how important it was to me. Of course she bought more candy than anyone else, often using it to reward my hard efforts. She also assisted me by taking the candy to work with her and encouraging co-workers to purchase from me. THIS is tip #3 the more the merrier so solicit help from family to move those bars!
Ultimately, I didn't win my boom box, but I earned a really cool pen/pencil set with my name on it. I wanted that boom box, but was very proud to display my personalized pencils. Now that I am 32 I often look for fundraisers offering World's Finest Chocolate because it reminds me of my childhood. I was tickled pink when I traveled from the Midwest to California for a conference and saw a little girl standing with her box of World's Finest Chocolate. Needless to say she made a killing; I just may have become her favorite customer that day! THIS is tip #4 remind your older customers of the good old days. World's Finest Chocolate has been around for a long time and people LOVE to reminisce about the good old days.
Good Luck and Happy Selling!
