The Science Club's Epcot Fundraiser

by Karen
(USA)

As most Americans know, Disney is not cheap. My daughter's eight-grade Science club decided to go to Disney's Epcot, and in order for parents to not have to foot the bill, the club decided to do a fund-raiser.

The club did three things to raise money. First, they had a bake sale. We parents baked cookies, cakes, and muffins for the sale. Not too many parents participated, so we only made about $200. I think we only did so well because one of the parents let us set-up a table outside his grocery store.

Next, we had a car wash. Club members made signs and stood at traffic lights at intersections on Main Street. They charged three dollars for a car wash; the water hook-up was donated by a local bank. The students made a few hundred dollars doing this. I felt so sorry for my daughter, she was exhausted that night!

And last, to make the last few hundred dollars needed, my daughter and other club members made signs, stood at intersections throughout the Main Street in town and asked for donations. They made a couple hundred dollars using this method also.

Their methods of raising money were old tried-and-true methods, and they worked. These methods also required the involvement of parents. The next month, the club members went to Epcot and had a wonderful time. All they needed to pay for was their out of pocket purchases.
