Unique Candle Fundraiser Raises Money for Needy

A particularly bad storm season in my hometown had left numerous families with flooded houses and destroyed homes. Our church decided to pitch in my raising money for repairs and temporary housing, to get the afflicted families back on their feet.
While the adults came up with numerous fundraising ideas, the children decided they wanted to lend a hand as well, and so the Childrens' Church Candle Fundraiser was born.
Wanting to help others, and have fun doing it, the children decided to make their own candles and sell them to the community, with proceeds going to help victims of the flood.
With adult supervision, the children made their own candles out of little more than cups, ice cubes, wax, and some store-bought wicks. To make the candles the children filled with cups with ice, and then poured the melted candle wax all over the ice. Wicks were then tied to a pencil which was balanced across the top of the cups. As the wax hardened, the wick was set in place, and the ice cubes began to melt. What was left after all the ice had melted away were candles of intricate and completely unique designs!
They proved to be a big hit in the the neighborhood, and the children were able to raise over five hundred dollars to help those in need.
It goes to show that a bit of hard work and ingenuity are all it takes to make a difference.
