Who doesn't like chocolate?

Those were the exact words that my wife told the assembled PTO members as we debated over what we would use for our fundraiser last year.

Our local PTO has one large fundraiser every spring in order to build up funds for the following school year. Two of our daughters attend Lewis and Clark Elementary School in Grand Forks, ND. Being members of our local PTO, when we attended our first meeting this past fall the main item on the agenda was what we would use as our fundraiser this year.

Previously they had sold cookies, cookie dough, books and a handful of other items. As the assembled parents went through the standard list, my wife raised her hand and pointed out how, when she was young, she had sold chocolate bars at her school. After very little debate, it was decided that we would sell those this year.

The PTO chairwoman contacted World's Finest Chocolates later that same week. We negotiated the purchase of 600 boxes of chocolates, enough for one box for every student from 2nd grade through 5th grade.

The boxes arrived within a week of the date desired and were promptly distributed. We allowed the children to do some door-to-door sales since we feel this is a safer community, but we still encouraged parents to accompany their children.

The kids each started with 30 bars, if I remember correctly. We allowed each child two weeks for sales. When the sales period was done and the children turned in their money, we found out that they had sold over 95% of the bars we had and we had taken in over $1650 for the PTO! We were ecstatic. It just goes to show that my wife was right. Everyone does love chocolate!
